Next to the ridiculously one-sided Super Bowl, the subject in many of our minds is the challenging weather, especially in the East and Mid-West. I can't tell you how many meetings and programs I've had to reschedule (or even cancel) because of the endless snow and ice. These last-minute changes can wreak havoc on our business and require us to flex our strategic agility muscles in order to move forward.
If face-to-face meetings are no longer an option, then the obvious alternatives are virtual meetings either by phone, web or video. That's the easy part. What's critical when conducting business virtually is to also appropriately scale the expectations and desired outcomes? You simply can't get the same amount accomplished and drive all the necessary actions than you can when the meeting is in person. It may take two virtual meetings to cover the objectives of a live meeting. If you successfully manage expected outcomes from these weather-challenged technology-based conversations, your business will run a lot smoother with less stress.
